Could you please introduce yourself?
My name is Ron Eyal, I’m 25 years old and I was born in Modi’in. I served in the IDF. After the army, I began searching for what I want to do in life.
A year after the army, I ended up working 12 different jobs. Some of the jobs included selling cars and being the manager of a restaurant. These experiences were impactful but also made me realize that I wanted to be an entrepreneur and not work for other people.
Can you explain the device itself and how it works?
I found out a lot of people smoke while driving and don’t have an easy way to ash the cigarette while doing so. They end up ashing it out the window and it often makes a mess in the car as well as being a big distraction. Vootto is the product we have created for this problem. The device is an air purifier combined with an ashtray that acts as a vacuum — sucking the ash and smoke out of a cigarette from 10 cm away.
The device then replaces the smoke with a good smelling fragrance.
Is this your first startup?
Yes. I have always had a lot of ideas but this is the first project that I put into action.
Can you talk about the initial difficulty of creating your own company and how you overcame that?
It took 2 years for the idea to translate into a business. As an entrepreneur you need to make people believe in your idea — finding people like engineers and developers to help you achieve this goal is what comes secondary, but, the first aspect you have to have is belief. That’s the most valuable part.
Then you have to take action. You can’t wait and make excuses like “I’ll do it tomorrow.” Many people have incredible ideas but feel like they are not ready to take on the challenges of a startup. What you need to do is take a risk and believe in yourself — that’s the key.
How do you separate yourself from the competitors?
We have competitors but not direct competitors. Some of the competitors are different air purifier devices but they don’t appeal as well to the smoker demographic as we do, which gives us a huge advantage. If a true competitor were to emerge in the market, they would have a hard time competing with us. We have established already many partnerships from large distributors and manufacturers and have made a name for ourselves, making us superior from the get go.
What is the most enjoyable part of your job?
I love that everyday is different. One day you’ll travel to China and the next day you’ll have a meeting with a renowned businessman. I’m always faced with new things and my work is rarely repetitive.
I also enjoy that I can speak with all the people working in different departments and I can work with all the departments individually. As the boss, there is a lot of mobility in what I can do.
That’s probably what I enjoy most.
What is the most challenging part on a daily basis?
I think that the most challenging aspect of my work is that I am constantly faced with new challenges. Some of these challenges are completely foreign concepts, which I have never encountered before. Because of this, I am forced to learn quickly and adapt to many different types of situations.
What are your goals for the next 5 years?
I would like to create an even bigger operation. The goal is to have over 20 more products in the future. And we have already been putting together ideas for so many new IoT related elements that connect to the Vootto device. One idea for the future is an app that connects to the air purifier. On this app, you can purchase wise smoker products along with controlling the device remotely.
